The 90's started with a hangover from the 80's. After a couple of Asprins, Nirvana and Pearl Jam would turn up. But anyway, back to the hangover..............
"Guitarist Richard Drummie and vocalist Peter Cox formed the duo Go West. Backed by the likes of Austrian keyboardist/producer Peter Wolf and a cast of West Coast studio musicians, they've produced several albums of high energy dance pop. Although their 1985 debut was a polished set that produced two Top 40 singles ("We Close Our Eyes" and "Don't Look Down"), their biggest hit was "King of Wishful Thinking" from the Pretty Woman soundtrack"

Louis Allen Rawls (December 1, 1933 – January 6, 2006) was a Chicago-born American soul music, jazz, and blues singer. Known for his smooth vocal style, Frank Sinatra once said that Rawls had "the classiest singing and silkiest chops in the singing game." Rawls released more than 70 albums, sold more than 40 million records, appeared as an actor in motion pictures and on television, and voiced-over many cartoons. He has been called "The Funkiest Man Alive".

Today's generation have Marilyn Manson (you remember the Manson family don't you? Charles, Marilyn & Shirley, now there's a reality show!) in the early 80's we had Robert Smith. Is he a freak? Nah. The Cure were "Goth" and they were the leaders at their genre.

"The Cure are a successful English rock band, widely seen as one of the leading pioneers of the British alternative rock scene of the 1980s. A combination of lead singer Robert Smith's iconic wild hair, pale complexion, smudged lipstick, and the frequently gloomy and introspective lyrics have led to the band being primarily classified as gothic rock. Smith rejects this and other attempts to confine the band to a single genre. The Cure have sold close to 50 million albums worldwide."

My kids are going to disown me if i keep listing "Artist's" that they describe as "that's Sad Dad" .

Ah well, who am i to judge "The Worlds Best Songs ... Ever"
Not me, no. Now that they have two songs so far listed in the "Top 1000 Songs" lets hear from the "experts" and see what they say about the Village People .........

"Part clever concept, part exaggerated camp act, the Village People were worldwide sensations during disco's heyday and keep reviving like the phoenix. Producer Jacques Morali in 1977 assembled a group designed to attract gay audiences while parodying (some claimed exploiting) that same constituency's stereotypes.
Songwriters Phil Hurtt and Peter Whitehead were tabbed to compose songs with gay underpinnings, and roles and costumes were carefully selected; among them were a cowboy, biker, soldier, policeman, and construction worker complete with hard hat. " ~ [Source: artist.com]

Brilliant marketing and catchy tunes made this group very wealthy. Just ask Marilyn Manson he was obviously a very learned student of the Village People. $Kaching !$

The Village People are mereasingly turning Eurodisco into low camp. "In the Navy," a mock recruiting song with a John Philip Sousa beat and an S&M subtext, is neither as catchy nor as provocative as "Y.M.C.A." Though Jacques Morali's goose-stepping pastiche of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff's productions for the O'Jays remains as glossy as ever, Go West's martial rhythms and bullish choral pageantry strain beyond parody into farce.
