I would love to throw a curve ball here and mention King Crimson in a Purplely Rainbowish way. But alas there is no connection.

In this song "Since You Been Gone" you can hear tints of Yes & Foreigner here and if you throw in Rainbow's song you can understand how Smashing Pumpkins got their hit song "1979"
