J D Souther, is one man you never hear much about. Here's some things you may have not known....
"After moving to Los Angeles in the late sixties, he met a young guitarist from Detroit named Glenn Frey. They bonded over their Detroit roots and a common love of country and R&B music. In short order, they began working together while sharing a small apartment in L.A.'s Echo Park area (their downstairs neighbor was Jackson Browne with whom both Souther and Frey would collaborate on numerous projects)"
"Souther is probably best known in his songwriting capacity, having co-written some of the biggest hits for The Eagles, including "Best of My Love", "Victim of Love", "Heartache Tonight", and "New Kid in Town". He also wrote songs for ex-girlfriend Linda Ronstadt, who once had The Eagles as her backing band ("Faithless Love"), and recorded several hits with her ("If You Have Crying Eyes", "Prisoner in Disguise" etc.)He also sang vocals on Bonnie Raitt's 1977 song, "Home", off her album Sweet Forgiveness."
"His biggest hit as a solo artist was his 1979 Orbison-influenced song "You're Only Lonely" from the album of the same name, which reached the top 10 of the Billboard charts. A collaboration with James Taylor called "Her Town Too" from Taylor's Dad Loves His Work album, reached number 11 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart."
"He was a contributor on the Roy Orbison and Friends, A Black and White Night 1987 concert and video, and sang The Platters' "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" in the 1989 movie Always.
As an actor, he has played several roles including John Dunaway in the (1989–1990) third season of the television drama thirtysomething and Ted in the film Postcards from the Edge (1990)."

Och da ayes and a Nooos, its Scottish Born Edwyn Collins Och Aye. Whaddya mean you haven't heard of him? Oh for petes sake.
"Best known for his tenure fronting the Scottish pop Revivalists
Orange Juice as well as his international solo hit "A Girl Like You," singer Edwyn Collins was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1959. In 1976, he formed the Nu-Sonics, which resurfaced three years later as Orange Juice; the leading proponent of the Glasgow neo-pop scene, the band earned a devoted cult following but little commercial success, and by the early 1980s Collins was the only remaining founding member. After a self-titled 1984 release failed to chart, Orange Juice disbanded, and Collins was freed from his contract with the group's label, Polydor.."
"After spending much of the decade's first half in the producer's seat, overseeing sessions from artists including longtime pal Paul Quinn, the Rockingbirds, A House and the Frank & Walters, Collins finally earned another shot as a performer: after signing with the tiny U.K. indie Setanta, he recorded 1994's Gorgeous George, a scathing, shimmering set of retro-pop highlighted by the single "A Girl Like You." Slowly, the song became a massive hit throughout Europe as well as the U.S. and returned Collins to the charts for the first time since the 1983 Orange Juice smash "Rip It Up," finally establishing the long-standing cult hero as something of a household name"
"In a BBC 6 Music radio interview on February 18, 2005 Collins had said he felt unwell, but ascribed the nausea and vertigo to food poisoning. Two days later he was admitted to intensive care in London's Royal Free Hospital after apparently suffering a major cerebral haemorrhage. On February 25, he underwent an operation, reportedly after suffering a second haemorrhage. The procedure was successful, and Collins began a lengthy programme of neurological rehabilitation."
[23.8.07] Update: It was announced in June 2007 that Collins would be releasing his sixth solo album in September 2007 on Heavenly Records entitled Home Again. The album was recorded before his accident but mixed after his discharge from hospital.

Elvis Sucked*!
Well, no he actually didn't, but now that i have your attention i am going to define why Elvis changed the way music is to this day.
All the experts will tell you its because of the way he "moved" on stage or TV. What if i said to you it was a combination of only just a handful of reasons why.
.
  • He could sing
  • He was at the right place at the right time in history
  • He was the James Dean with a mic
  • He was the opposite to the Authority (Politicians, laws, Sinatra and most of all.. your parents hated him)
  • If you were female you wanted to be in bed with him. If you were male, you wanted to be him (and probably to bed him too)
  • And here's the big one..... the guitaring in his music was groundbreaking, it defined him and his "move" and created "the" Genre that was so unique in 1955. The guitaring (& overall sound) combined with his good looks and black voice was the most important ingredient ever musically to happen in the Twentieth Century.
*The only thing that really sucked, was his unnecessary death. If he was alive today he would have been the elder statesman of the music scene and revered as the alltime great that he was meant to be rather than just a "pop icon"of a slowly fading time in history.Now that sucks.
What does RS think of the King?
Simply put, Elvis Presley was the first real rock & roll star. A white Southerner singing blues laced with country, and country laced with gospel, he brought together American music from both sides of the color line and performed it with a natural hip-swiveling sexuality that made him a teen idol and a role model for generations of cool rebels. He was repeatedly dismissed as vulgar, incompetent, and a bad influence, but the force of his music and his image was no mere merchandising feat. Presley signaled to mainstream culture that it was time to let go. Four decades after his death, Presley’s image and influence remain undiminished. While certainly other artists preceded him and he by no means “invented” rock & roll, he is indisputably its king. ~ [Source: Rolling Stone]
